Chic + Disheveled = Authentically Chic

Most people will never understand fully how to be "authentically" chic. I am not saying that in a superior, mean spirited way, it's not always easy for people to live in an authentic way. It takes A LOT more work, emotionally, to live in an unauthentic way because one is constantly putting up a front for who they are, and how they live. You can be a stylish mess... I don't mean hoarder-style, or letting yourself go... I mean super personal and...REAL... I am baffled by how many people,(whom are highly regarded in the style or design world), can end up coming across as trying WAY too hard to always look perfectly put together, or have homes that look completely contrived, and un-original. That is why I love seeing homes like this, or Isabel Marant's, (who's home I did a post on not too long ago), and other creative's, that feel authentically lived in, real, stylish, and yet slightly disheveled. I feel the same way about life, fashion, and everyday style. I would much rather see a slightly "off" topknot any day, than a huge perfectly coiffed bun on the head. I would much rather hang with the slightly disheveled person who doesn't give a shit what other people think, because I am all about feeling comfortable in my skin, and too many of us are contriving our own identity, and lives.
Let's get real....

Part "Deux"- Montana to Southern Utah

We stayed with family after we left the lake, the night before our journey to Utah, and the kiddo's swam, and banged on some drums, in hopes of expending some of their energy for the drive...In HOPES...

Night fell, and they were still swimming.

Henry found the drums, and immediately started pounding away. He is a great little piano player too... The dude is talented! (insert eye roll) But seriously...He is!

When we got to Southern Utah, my eyes almost exploded from the crazy beauty of the MAMMOTH rocks, in gorgeous shades of pink, red, and orange...All I could think of was fish swimming around them in what once was an ancient sea...It was seriously reminiscent of a GIANT coral reef....

We got lost and survived for days in this cave while my husband looked at me in horror as I took pics of our demise into insanity....I kid...But...Parched is not a word I will ever again use lightly...In 100 degree weather, you had better bring a butt-load of water...We did, barely, but the HEAT is what really throws you for a loop.
( She did make it in one piece though, as dramatic as this pic is!)

As dry, and hot as it was, I was shocked to see this little guy roaming around...There were no bugs, not much sign of animal life at all actually, but there were lots of these little guys...
You feel like total nothingness in this world, like you are the size of an ant...
And boy is it humbling...

This sign was not to be taken lightly, we heard about a 12 year old that fell of a trail here recently, and sadly, died...And the lightening storms here are intense...As a matter of fact as we were leaving, one was coming upon us...
As the clouds came in and we could see lightening and rain before us, we headed to our hotel to rest up for the next days adventure!

"Part 1" Of The Ament Family Road Trip...

I have been on a road trip with my family for the last part of the summer, and here are some pics of the first part of the trip to the lake in Montana.
This is where we spent most of our time. In the WATER!
I am in total denial that summer is coming to an end...I don't believe it to be true...NOPE...

Lots of Paddle boarding. And Planking...

My daughter on one of the boards. The water was perfect...

Happy Cousins.

My little guy Henry, always mischievously trying to tip his cousins off of the boards.

On the last night we made fresh Cherry/Huckleberry popsicles and the family member that found the ONE full sized cherry that my huz snuck in one of the winning pops, got thrown in the lake with their clothes still on...In the dark...My little guy Henry won...We chanted, grunted and made some Native American sounding calls, the sounds that you might imagine are what Max from the book "Where The Wild Things Are" made when he was dancing around with the monsters, and then someone grabbed his arms, and someone grabbed his legs, and after a big 1, 2, 3, we tossed him in. He was a good sport.
It was so cute...And kinda magical..

Then....as quick as it began...it ended... The wildfires came, and our eyes burned, and heads started hurting, and we swiftly evacuated the land of "Sunrise Kingdom"...Sadly...'Till next year!...

More to come of our trip...Thanks for hanging with me...

Indoor, Outdoor... Outdoor, Indoor...

These images are a few of the most thought-out, beautifully built, indoor-outdoor spaces that I have ever seen....Because who doesn't dream of having a space where you can go feel the breeze and hear the wild sounds of nature, right inside/outside of your home?

Of course the pool right on your patio doesn't hurt...

This cozy, traditional, yet modern abode is set up in a way where life would go on, while lounging, or playing piano, or reading a novel...Just with an enormous chunk of WALL missing.
And last, but not least, pools, cascading into pools, cascading into pools, if only there were magic fairies, flying about...Which I am guessing there are.....

Happy Summer!
